A Teaching Adventure in the Middle East Starts Here!

Simplicity is best as you refine your resume.  It’s your first impression to a potential employer.  The attributes of an impressive resume in Canada may not be the driver to impress in the Middle East. Humility and clarity are important.
Your education qualifications and certifications are critical to your evaluation as an ideal candidate to joining an international team.  It’s your selling feature!  Western education is a highly demanded commodity.
There should be no unanswered questions to you, and your resume when submitting an application of interest.
Use your full name. When in doubt look to your passport, however be sure to highlight your informal or the name in which you wish to be called, including salutation as your martial status or number of dependents is important both to support your housing needs, and ensuring student placements at the school.  This is particularly important if you have a unisex name, as you surely would want to avoid any unpleasant misunderstandings upon arrival.
Recruiters and employers require your full contact information (address, home telephone number, mobile number, email address, Skype name). List your preference for communications and the best time to reach you. Skype will be the main channel for any interviews, and video conferencing both for the recruiter as well as the screening process with potential employers.
A resume should provide a summary of all education and positions since the beginning of your career adventure, and upon graduating from your post secondary institution, including month and year of start and end of the employment. Avoid any time gaps between employment – and if there are gaps provide an explanation.
A chronological resume is ideal and should list the most current, up to date information, first.  It makes it easier for Middle East potential employers to review the information for age or years of experience restrictions, and visa approvals.  It avoids any confusion as well as time delays.
Identify the location by city, province and country, if necessary of the education institutions you have worked.  If you are able to provide further details such as the size of the institution both in student body, and team administration it will prove to be very useful during the evaluation process.
A career objective tailored to the opportunities you are applying is important.  If you cannot tailor the objective, don’t it listed.  Simple text in black and white with a professional tone with proper lower or upper case allotments is a must. Please avoid icons. Part of your selling feature is being a native English speaker. Please check your resume and letter of introduction for spelling, punctuation and grammar.  Files should be PDF, however if a Word document is used be sure it is read only to avoid any troubles opening the file.  Your resume file should be your name.  It helps manage the coordination of your personal and professional information to potential employers.  A photo of yourself is necessary too. The photo should be professional looking of your upper body. Remember to smile as you are selling yourself in a new market.  A happy face makes everyone happy and potential employers will consider you a welcome addition to their educational team.
